Brand Focus: Nancy Boy

**If you are receiving this post via email, you may want to check out the actual site as the email throws off the formatting**

I figured I’d try something a little different from what I normally do. In this post, I’m going to review all the products I have from a particular brand, Nancy Boy. Who is Nancy Boy, you ask? Nancy Boy is a small company based in San Francisco that makes body/skin care and home scent products. Most of their products are all-natural and do not contain parabens, artificial fragrances, etc. They do not advertise, they rely on word-of-mouth (I heard of them from a coworker). Their tagline is “Tested on Boyfriends – Not Animals.” J There is a Nancy Boy store in San Fran and they have an online store. If you sign up to be in the Club Nancy Boy newsletter you get 15% off all of your orders (you get one newsletter a month and that’s it!). Shipping is free over $50 and only $5 below that. You also get a free product when you spend over $50 (usually a travel size) and a second free product when you spend over $100 (a full size item). Below I’ll describe the products I have used from Nancy Boy. I ordered some full-size items, but mainly travel size items so that I could test out the brand.

1. Citrus Scent Hand Lotion (full-size; 8oz.)

I love this lotion! The scent is so refreshing—it’s citrusy (lemon, grapefruit, bergamot) without being overbearing. It leaves my hands very smooth. It absorbs quickly but is very moisturizing. I would definitely repurchase this in the future. This is the first product I tried before ordering the rest of the products described.

2. Signature Scent Hand Lotion (full-size; 8 oz.)

I am not as big of a fan of this hand lotion. The scent is lavender, mint and rosemary. I like the scent and my coworkers frequently come to my office to get their “stress buster” lotion (lavender is known to be a calming scent). However, I don’t find this lotion as moisturizing as the citrus scent, I actually find it a little drying for my hands. At least I know people at work will use it.

3. Mild Facial Cleanser (travel size; 2 oz.)

I really like this face cleanser. It has no smell and does a really good job of taking my makeup off, whether or not I use a micellar water first (see my Micellar Water Beauty Battle here). It didn’t dry my skin out at all and a little goes a long way.

4. Shampoo and Conditioner (travel size Signature Scent; 2 oz.)

Like the hand lotion, this shampoo and conditioner is in the signature scent that contains lavender, mint and rosemary. This shampoo does not lather (non-lathering shampoo seems to be very “in” right now). I didn’t like these products. It might just be that the lavender/mint/rosemary oils don’t agree with me because I found the shampoo and conditioner to be drying, like I did the hand lotion.

5. Replenishing Body Wash (travel size; 2 oz.)

I hesitated to include this because I don’t see it on the website anymore. This body wash had a cucumber smell (which I didn’t like, cucumber isn’t my thing). It was fine for a body wash, nothing special. There is an invigorating body wash on the site that contains mint.

6. Hand Soap in Blossomwood (full-size; 8 oz.)

I’m always on the hunt for a good soap that isn’t anti-bacterial. Anti-bacterial soaps really dry out my skin and using too much of it isn’t good for your skin in the first place (and decreases the efficacy of the anti-bacterial properties if you use it all the time). This soap is very liquidy and you only need a little bit. This scent is slightly citrusy with a woodsy undertone. It doesn’t dry out my hands so that’s a win for me. Be careful when you are dispensing the product, one pump is actually a ton of soap so I tap the dispenser to get just a little bit.

7. Citrus Healing Lip Balm (full-size; 0.15 oz.)

I wanted to try out the citrus lip balm since the citrus hand soap worked so well for me. Unfortunately, this lip balm left my lips feeling very dry. I think it may be me though, every lip balm but Carmex leaves my lips dry. I’m not sure where this ended up (I think in the trash because my husband didn’t like it either so I don’t have a picture of it).

8. Balancing Facial Toner (travel size; 1oz.)

Love, love, LOVE! This toner is fantastic. I didn’t irritate my skin at all, it actually seemed to soothe it. Toners can be harsh and leave my skin red. This toner does not have any alcohol in it and has a slight smell that I can’t really describe (the website describes it as an orange blossom scent). The smell goes away after a few seconds though. The balancing toner is meant for people with normal to dry skin. They have a clarifying toner meant for people with more oily skin. Once I ran out of the travel size, I purchased the full-size balancing toner.

Overall

I may not have liked all the products I tried, but the ones I did like I really, really liked (the citrus hand lotion, facial cleanser and toner). Not only do I like those products, I like what this company stands for. Simple products, done right. They keep their operation small on purpose—so they can produce high quality products at a reasonable price. I think Nancy Boy is worth a try.
