New at the Drugstore: Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipsticks

The newest additions to the Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick line are the Rebel Blooms. These are Spring pastel/neon shades, available in 10 different colors. They are available at drugstores and Target. They are newer so they may not be everywhere yet. I spotted the light fuchsia packaging in a box in the makeup section at CVS (not even on the shelves yet) and the associate was nice enough to let me go through them J

Available colors (per the Maybelline website, with my best estimation of color):

700 Barely Bloomed (nude)
705 Blushing Bud (dusty rose)
710 Petal Pink (bright light pink)
715 Hibiscus Pop (bright medium pink)
720 Power Peony (bright pink)
725 Lilac Flush (pastel light purple)
730 Orchid Ecstasy (bright medium purple)
735 Rose Flush (bright red)
740 Coral Burst (bright coral)
745 Peach Poppy (pastel light coral)

I picked up three colors: 705 Blushing Bud, 730 Orchid Ecstasy and 740 Coral Burst. All three were way more pink-toned than I had expected after looking at swatches online and seeing the lipstick bullet in person. Pink tones are not my favorite so I was a little disappointed. 740 Coral Burst was particularly pink-toned where I was hoping for a true neon coral.

They have a slight Play-Doh smell (which I really like). I would recommend exfoliating your lips before using these or the color can look patchy. They are on the opaque side, and only a couple layers of product are needed for the full effect. The formula is very creamy and it leaves a slight shine on the lips. The wear time is not very long. The product transfers very easily so reapplication is needed throughout the day.

Swatches of the three shades I got are below. 730 Orchid Ecstasy is by far my favorite. It will be a color I wear a lot in the spring and summer. 705 Blushing Bud is a good neutral color, and if I use a brown-based lipliner underneath it, I think it will tone down the pink a little. I’m not sure I like 740 Coral Burst, it may grow on me though. It’s just so much more pink-toned than I thought it would be.
