First Impressions of March 2015 Boxycharm

**If you are receiving this post via email, you may want to check out the actual site as the email throws off the formatting**

Boxycharm is a $21/month subscription box. You get around 5 full-size products (sometimes deluxe sample sizes) of higher-end beauty (makeup, skin care, haircare) products. I’ve been scoping this box out for a while and since my POPSUGAR Must Have Box subscription is up I figured I’d give it a try. This is my second month of Boxycharm. Like ipsy and Birchbox, you get points for reviewing products in your box, and for referrals, that you can use to “buy” products from the Boxycharm website.

Boxycharm comes in a cardboard box (surprise!) and includes a card that details the products inside and the value of each product.

Here’s what I received in my March 2015 Boxycharm and my first impression of the products:

Product #1: Oscar Blondi Pronto Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray (travel size, 1.3 oz.)
The type of Oscar Blondi a subscriber receives will vary. I received the heat protecting spray; others received dry shampoo, volumizing spray, etc. Prior to signing up for any subscription boxes, I had only two hair products: 1) Dry shampoo (Dove) and 2) Heat protecting spray (Tresemme). It claims to protect hair up to 450°, adding shine and hold. I will definitely use this and Oscar Blondi is a high end brand I have never tried so I am excited to see what it’s like. I’m fine with the travel size since I don’t apply heat to my hair that often.
Value: $11

Product #2: OFRA Eyeliner (Full-Size)
The color will vary depending on the box. I received black, which isn’t exciting to me. I have a ton of black eyeliners from subscription boxes. Other people received navy, dark brown, etc. It is not very pigmented or creamy so you really have to push down to get a nice line. I don’t like these types of pencils because it makes application difficult and you have to tug on your eyelid (not the way to go if you’re planning on preventing/reducing wrinkles). OFRA is a higher end brand, but I will be passing this along.
Value: $13

Product #3: LVX Nail Lacquer (Full-Size)
Again, the color will vary depending on the luck of the draw. I received “Mynt” which is a pastel green—perfect for spring. The other colors were yellow and a coral color. Boxycharm sent a nail lacquer last month (heart glitter) so I was surprised to get another nail polish. I don’t have a color like this so I’m glad I received the green because I have polishes similar to the other two colors. It looks pretty pigmented and claims to only need 1-2 coats. It is “5 Free,” cruelty free, vegan and has a gel like finish. I’ll probably wear this next week!
Value: $16

Product #4: tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Charmed (Full Size)
I received a pink lip crayon last month so I’m a little disappointed to get one in back-to-back months. However, I love tarte and this lip crayon is sheerer than last month’s (which was very pigmented) so I’m happy. It has a strong minty smell/flavor, like you just had a breath mint. It claims to be hydrating and in my experience tarte products usually are. The color is a bubblegum pink but on the sheer side (not super sheer, but definitely not opaque). I’m always happy to receive a tarte product! There is also a 20% off coupon for tarte.com (4/1-4/10/15).
Value: $24

Product #5: Previse Nutrify Skin Type 1-6 Universal Tonic (Full Size)
Soooooo…..from what I’ve seen, no one is quite sure what this is. I looked on the website (it was confusing) and at one of my favorite subscription box websites (she didn’t know what it was either) to no avail. I initially thought it was a serum, but some descriptions make it seem kind of like a primer too. But then the directions say you can use it throughout the day. Sooo…yeah. I’m not sure what it is. The directions to use the product are a novel, but basically you put a few drops on your hand, warm it up, massage it into one part of your face and repeat until you cover the entire face. It smell medicinal/alcohol-y and comes in a glass bottle with a medicine dropper.
Value: $48

Overall Value: $112!! (almost half of which is for the toner/primer alone)

I’m pleased with the box. I will definitely use the tarte lip tint, the heat protectant and the nail polish. If I figure out what the tonic is, and my skin agrees with it, then this box will be a home run. The only thing I’m not excited about is the eyeliner.
