Review of January 2015 POPSUGAR Must Have Box

The POPSUGAR Must Have Box is a monthly subscription box that is $39.99 a month. If you sign up for 3 months you receive a $10 discount and if you sign up for 6 months you receive a $25 discount. You can often find coupon codes online (see: mysubscriptionaddiciton.com—that’s where I found mine) where you can save up to half off a box! You get a mix of everything—makeup, skin care, food, accessories, décor, fitness items and more. This box is not customized, everyone receives the same items.

POPSUGAR comes with a card detailing all the included items, and their value:

Below are the items I received, along with mini-reviews.

Product #1: Jack + Lucy Pom Pom Hat
This is a charcoal gray knit cap with a (fake) animal fur pom pom. It is advertised as a “slouchy” hat, and it certainly is. I turn up the end of the cap so it is less slouchy on me and stands up a little better. I’ve worn it a few times—it’s cute, warm and has definitely come in handy during the New England snowstorms!
Value: $32

Product #2: First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (6 oz.)
FAB’s Ultra Repair Cream is a cult classic and one of their best-selling items. It is formulated without parabens, artificial fragrance, etc. It is supposed to be good for sensitive, dry and eczema-prone skin. I’ve used this on my hands, face and body. It works best on my hands, okay on my face and not so well on my body. I find I’m still itchy after applying this after a shower. I received the 2 oz. version with my Clairsonic so I was a little less excited to receive this than I would have been if I didn’t have it already.
Value: $28

Product #3: KeepCup Brew 12-Ounce Reusable Coffee Cup
This is a medium-size glass cup with a lid. It has a pink heat guard—good idea. If you read my ipsy January 2015 review post, you’ll already know I don’t like pink. Most reusable cups I have are good only for cold beverages, so I’m very happy to have one good for cold and hot beverages. It is very sturdy and the lid isn’t glass so you won’t burn yourself. The lid also has a swivel plug so there aren’t any spills!
Value: $26

Product #4: Manduka eQua Hand Towel
I was excited to see this teal microfiber towel in the box—perfect for yoga, which I practice often. It wicks up sweat and doesn’t slip around, a win-win for me. Manduka is a popular yoga accessories company.
Value: $16

Product #5: ToGoSpa EYES
This is a set of three gel patches that you put under your eyes. They are advertised to “Soothe, moisturize and de-puff tired eyes.” The patches include collagen, aloe vera leaf gel, hyaluronic acid, Vitamins C and E and lavender oil, among a few other ingredients. Three sets is a good amount to get a feel for the product and if it works for you. I have used these once and was not impressed. They smell really nice, but they do not stay put. I even laid down with my head level and they still slid down my face. I also noticed that my contacts were dry after I used them. I might use the other two as I noticed that my eyes looked brighter and less puffy, but I wouldn’t purchase.
Value: $12.50

Product #6: Skin Jewel Tattoos EMPIRE
This is two sheets (one silver, one gold) of tattoos. These are really big right now and will probably trend throughout the summer. This product is sponsored by the new Fox TV show EMPIRE (which I have not watched). I put one of the silver tattoos along the length of my forearm. It went on very easily; I just soaked the back of the tattoo with a paper towel for about 15 seconds. It looks like tin foil on my arm, and has the crinkled effect tin foil can get. They would be cool for the beach, but not an everyday look. It started to wear off after less than a day so the staying power may not be that great.
Value: $18

Product #7: General Mills Nature Valley Protein Granola in Peanut Butter ‘N Dark Chocolate
Yum! This is good as a breakfast cereal (with any type of milk) or a snack sans the milk. In my opinion, it’s hard to go wrong when you mix peanut butter and chocolate. ‘Nuff said.
Value: $3.68

Overall Value: $136.18
Definitely worth the $35 I paid. I will use all of these products. Also, there was a good mix of beauty, practical and fun items. I can’t wait to see what February brings!
