Couponing 101: Ibotta

**If you are receiving this post via email, you may want to check out the actual site as the email throws off the formatting**

When couponing, it’s good to think outside the box (or the actual coupon) to get the best deals possible. I’ve already told you about Ebates, a website that gives you cash back for the online purchases you make. Ibotta is similar, the difference being Ebates is done online whereas you use the Ibotta app for store purchases.

Ibotta is an app that you use to find cash back opportunities on certain products purchased at certain stores. After you download the app you will see different categories of products (e.g., grocery, apparel, beauty). When you click on a category it will take you to a list of stores that have current rebates (e.g., Target, Walgreens). Click on the store you’ll be shopping at and the app shows you all the available rebates. For example, I clicked on Grocery and Target. I will then click in the $0.25 rebate for any type of orange juice.

To qualify for the rebate you have to complete “tasks.” These tasks are usually taking a quick poll or saying whether you’ve used the product before. For the orange juice I had to take a poll. I’m guessing they use the information from the tasks to inform marketing, etc. After you complete the “task(s),” you are eligible for the rebate. You then go to the store, purchase the product, take a picture of the receipt and submit the picture via the app. Ibotta verifies that you purchased an eligible item (or items) and then the cash back shows up in your Ibotta account. Once you have accumulated at least $10, you can get the cash back (via PayPal).

It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really not. I’ve been using the app for a little while and have earned $40 cash back. There are also bonus offers, like if you redeem two Ibotta rebates on a single receipt you get an extra $2 cash back.

Ibotta has added a lot to their selection recently, including cash back on electronics, pet supplies, apparel and restaurants, so it really has a lot of options.

If you’re interested in checking out Ibotta, you can sign up through my referral link (I get cash back), or you can download the app yourself.
