Review of Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Eye Shadow Palette

**If you are receiving this post via email, you may want to check out the actual site as the email throws off the formatting**

There is a lot of buzz around the Coastal Scents Revealed Palettes (there are 3) because they are supposedly dupes for the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. I received the Revealed 2 palette in my April Boxycharm and it is supposed to be a dupe for the Naked 3 palette—rose gold toned. I have the Naked 2 palette (love) and had been eyeing the Naked 3 so I was excited to get the Revealed 2 palette.

The palette retails for $40, but it is $20 on the Coastal Scents website. It has 20 eye shadows, 8 matte and 12 shimmer, ranging from very light (white) to very dark (black). There is a range of colors in between (swatches below).

The Swatches

As you can see from the photos, there is a huge range of colors in this palette—a definite plus. One word of caution (that saying makes no sense, it’s usually followed by a sentence, not a word…): For me, the swatches below are not how the colors actually appear on my lids. The swatches would lead you to believe that this is a very purple-toned palette. It’s not. Once I apply these they are definitely varying hues of rose gold. It’s confusing and makes it hard to choose colors.

Lighter Shades

Darker Shades

The Pros
  • 20 shades for $20!
  • Darker colors have very good pigmentation
  • Very blendable
  • Long-lasting

The Cons
  • Shades color in pan does not match what appears on eyes
  • Lighter colors not very pigmented
  • A lot of the colors are very similar, making it hard to build a multi-dimensional look. You really can’t tell the different between a lot of the shades. I think this is really evident in the darker shades. In the swatch above of the darker shades, the 2nd and 5th swatches, the 3rd and 7th swatches, the 4th and 6th and the 9th and 10th swatches look almost identical. The lighter swatches look different, but when applied they appear as the same color.
  • Powdery formulation, leading to fallout
  • Shadows were very drying to my eyelids/crease/brow bone, even though I used an eye cream and primer

As you can tell, this is not my favorite palette. I find the color selection confusing. It appears to be a very varied palette, but upon application so many of the colors look the same. The shadows also look very different applied than they appear in the pan so it’s hard to choose appropriate colors. I think a lot of people might be drawn to this for the monetary value, and a lot of people do love this palette…it just wasn’t for me. I’ll stick to my Urban Decay Naked 2, It! Cosmetics and Sonia Kashuk palettes!
